Topic: Instruments used in church worship
Friends, i need your help to clarify this topic. I am in a group with some talented people who are eager to minister for the lord, but but our musicians are prohited from playing in our church i.e bass guitar, drums, etc. Now i believe that once we are glorifying the name of Jesus there should not be an issue. Can you tell me what you guys think.

There should be no problem with incorporating the bass guitar, drums, etc. church service. In Psalms 150 it simply states praise HIM(God with every instruments. The problem in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Antigua, the are some very conservative folks in the church that do not want to see the church progress...it must always stay the same. I attend the New Maranatha SDA....and during a week of prayer we had a Pastor from East made it plane that he did not want the drums to be in use as long as he is preach....now as the chief musician as was upset and so was all the elders and members until we pressure him to give into the drums....Instruments in the church are used for praising God....the problem should not be the Instruments themselves but how they are used...if they are used to aid in the song service and other church related activities it should not be a problem, if other wise then. Its the 21st century and churches should be lively but still in tune with God. Instruments are used as a missionary tool. They draw people to the church..that what its doing for my church. In conclusion Instruments were invented to give praise originally....people over the years diverted from that idea.....but they still can be used to give praise...that idea haven't expired....if our church had the finances and the space we would have every instrument and USE THEM TO PRAISE GOD OUR CREATOR!!!!

It's always interesting to me that only certain instruments are prohibited, especially the drums. Over the years I've heard several reasons for this, everything from the noise to the fact that drums are often used for secular purposes.

Any instrument can be played loudly, even the piano and organ that so many churches embrace. And any instrument can be used for God's glory.

For me the issue comes down to 2 things: 1) have the instruments been sanctified for holy use and holy use only? 2) are those who play these instruments also sanctified?

If the answer to both of these is yes, then everything comes down to personal preference. People prefer quiet worship; some people prefer a more lively experience. That's why when you read Psalms 150 it makes mention of the harp as well as the cymbal for both instruments, though markedly different from one another, are representative of worship styles and worship preferences.

Just know that this will always be an issue. Pray with your praise team and musicians; have a clear vision of what you want worship to be like at your church; pray again and ask God to fill the church with his presence. When this happens no matter if you have one piano, a full orchestra or an old harmonica, worship will take place and God's name will be glorified. Just remember that there will always be someone whose preferences may prevent him/her from embracing a particular worship style. But since worship is about God and not us, well need I say more?
